    File Explorer Problem

    Hello All,

Weird issue here with file explorer. Client system: Windows 10 22H2

File explorer opens for the user without an issue.

When the user clicks C (for example) on the left, the folders appear on the right (no issue)
When the user double clicks a folder displayed on the right side, Windows Explorer opens a new window and goes back to the default view (Quick Access).

The only way the user can get around this is by expanding C on the left side and selecting the folder from the left side.

I've tried restarting the system, SFC /fixnow, Restore Default from GENERAL TAB and VIEW tab, RESET FOLDERS from VIEW tab and Clear file explore history,

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That is typical behavior for view when opening up windows in File Explorer. Do not know why you think that SFC is going to change this.

No ..It's not "typical" behavior. But thanks for playing.

Standard diagnostic check: create a new user just for test purposes.
Log in as that user. Do you see the same behaviour?
(If not, general repairs like SFC /.... or an in-place upgrade repair install will not help).

If not, check with the original user in Safe Mode.

    Also check this setting:

    I agree with Dalchina:

I just tried the option right under it, and I got the same exact behavior as your first post.

Thanks for the suggestions, but that's not the issue. After more troubleshooting I've found the following:

Apparently ANY folder causes File Explorer to open in default view (quick access OR THIS PC whichever is the default). For example, I created a folder on the desktop named TEST. When I double click the folder, File Explorer opens but rather than showing me the contents of the TEST folder, it brings me to the default view (in this case QUICK ACCESS).

The "open each folder in same window" is already selected and has been that way since I started trying to work this out.

    Thanks!

I've seen postings about this same issue before. I agree with @dalchina. Test with a new local account, as per post #4.

Also, if you want to try an additional attempt at a possible fix, which is really quick and simple:

Go to the same location as in my previous post, select the option right under what I have in the orange box:
Open each folder in its own window
    Press Apply,
then select the option I have in the orange box above
    Press Apply.

This could reset some misconfigured entry in the Registry.

Then try opening the folders again.
