Oh, I know..thanks. I think the tense I used made my understanding of that clear.

To remove those update options, YanKleber needs to research e.g.

    'remove pending updates'

There is material on the internet on that, and a few threads on tenforums.

    I figured it out.

Just went to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder and deleted the update files. Problem solved.

Indeed- as I suggested- search for 'clear pending updates'....

Now you have to figure out something else... how, given the way you chose to disable W Update did you receive any- and how do you stop that in future.

    You can try
    Reset Windows Update - TenForumsTutorials
It was not designed to do what you want but I think it might well have the desired effect.

    All the best,
    Denis

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

Some important/significant updates will override anything a user sets.
Is this a behavior of Windows 11? Or Windows 10?

I ask because I have Win 10 ... and I don't see this behavior at all.

I have updates disabled. Yet I do NOT get those "Update and Shutdown" and "Update and Restart" items in the menu.

Nice find. I did not know about that folder.

I looked at mine and I see 145 files there, plus 1016 more files in various subfolders. About 1.5 GB in all.

    Delete.

Denis, I confess I didn't. I started reading ALL the posts but when I realized it was 99% of people only criticizing and trolling at certain point I just stopped. Thanks, I will check this out.

You'll find it a more comprehensive method of resetting [and clearing] updates if you have any problems in the future.
I've told Brink about your success so it can be noted in the tutorial's intro.

How have you managed to stay on Version 20H2? It has been out of support for over a year.
    Why?
Now that the immediate problem has been taken care of, perhaps you'd like to discuss how & why you are on 20H2 still. Only if you want to.

OK, here we go. Please don't get me wrong but I think that people supervalorize versions. I use Windows since version 2 (Windows 286). In fact my first experience with Windows was a 'runtime' version (I don't know if you are aware of what it is, if not I can explain) that I used to run PageMake only back in the 1980s. Before this I came from DOS. Why I am saying this? Because I have a theory based in the idea that "if it's not broken don't touch it" and it has worked for me for all those decades. I have quit earlier Windows versions because I forced to otherwise I probably still would be using XP (I loved it) that is so far the best version of Windows of all times IMO. Unfortunately - as my wife uses to say - even when you refuse to move forward the progress will drag you with it, so here I am.

Version 20H2 works fine for me. It's fast, it doesn't bugs me mostly of time, and since I have a good 3rd-party AV, FW and Anti Spyware I have been OK all those years. Oh, yeah, and the experience and the years taught me not to put all the eggs in the same basket, meaning that I will NOT rely on Windows to do the protection part. It's a OS and not a protection tool so I prefer to go with 3rd-party and that's why I don't care about updates as most of people do.

As I mentioned before I realized that a lot of people along this thread were laughing, and trolling and criticizing. I just ignore them because whenever I ask a question in a forum (and I try to do it the least as possible nowadays because people in general are becoming impossible to communicate with) I generally am not after spin-off suggestions. On contrary I expect a straight answer, otherwise better no answer. That's why sometimes I rather to be laconic and only answer whose nails my point.

What I mean is that if I ask "how do I get rid of it?" I expect that someone tells me "do this and you will get rid of it" instead "oh you shouldn't do this" or "why do you want to do this?" or "blabh-blah-blahhhhh" etc. Does it make sense? Maybe not. LoL.

Anyway, and back again to why I am still using this old version. I installed it around 2 years ago and right after I took a snapshot of my partition using Macrium. Since then I have doing all updates until suddenly my Windows become funny (actually it became crappy). Then to try to heal the issue I restored the old partition to see what would happen. For my surprise it was like a breeze of fresh air. My computer was like new again. Then I told to me: "you know what? let's stick with this" and that's what I did. Now I am super-fine, no virus, no threats, excellent performance, everything working OK, so I prefer not update, stick with what I already know instead to take chances with the hocus-pocus that MS throws inside their bags. Then I immediately disabled the updates but something happened and Windows override my preferences, downloaded the latest updates and my power button started to show up those horrid options with the orange balls. So here we are!

And about people that troll, laugh and criticize I really don't care about them. Honestly they are just silly because at the end of the day I know what works for me and this is just what matters for me. I am a pro (I am System Analyst and coder) and my computer is my daily tool so it has to be fine and reliable. I work as a remote for the last 20 year from my home-office in Brasil to an American company that deals with a LOT of technology, so I think that if I was so wrong doing the way I do something very bad already had happened! LoL.
