#11
I just upgraded my PC to Windows 11 Pro. When upgrading I didn't enter a licence code for Windows 11 then ran the activation trouble-shooter. The PC was soon activated using the Windows 10 Pro licence from my previous PC (retail licence). I've had no issues with Windows 11 and is has features which better support he latest CPUs.
Well, if you're on 10 now and considering 11 then you're in a 'half-way' house. I'd have said either forum would be appropriate. Once you've made the move then further questions would be best asked on Eleven Forum, of course.
I had three Windows 10 laptops, each one serving different purposes - one as a general purpose machine for all my photos and documents, one for running all my Hyper-V VMs, and one little laptop to take out with me for holidays/vacations.
My general machine was System One below, well below spec for Windows 11. Over two years ago I got a replacement that was a supported device and migrated my Windows 10 with all its user files installed apps to it. I tested upgrading it to 11 when MS released the first Insider build for 11 and ran it like that for about 3 months. Then on the official launch repeated the Win10 migration and let Windows Update upgrade it to 11. Since then I have done the same for the other two. So I now have six machines in regular use, three on 10 and three on 11.
No, the upgrade from 10 to 11 does not force you to change to a Microsoft account. You'll keep exactly the same accounts on the machine as you had before the upgrade. All mine are local accounts.
Pros and Cons? Well the interface is a little different, particularly Start, but underneath the kernel for Windows 11 is basically the same as the Windows 10 one. After two years of use I feel more comfortable with 11 now, but am still happily using 10 on my other machines.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with Windows 11, that helps me feel more comfortable with Win 11. The biggest issue for me was privacy and as everyone knows MS is a huge data mining company in my opinion. SO when I read you have to sign into to one of your MS accounts to even use Win 11 I didn't like that at all. I also read that was more for those who did a fresh install of Win 11, there was also a work around that sign in feature.
The thing that scared me a bit was every time someone figures out a work around something with Windows MS corrects it in a update so the work around no longer works and then someone find another work around and so on.
If I can upgrade to Win 11 and have it work like my Win 10 does that will be fine I can navigate through the changes in looks and find what I need.
Thanks for your detailed explanation of your experience with upgrading to Win 11.

Just adding my $0.02 here...
I switched to Windows 11 when it first came out and I have never looked back. I find it faster and more stable than my previous installation of Win 10 Pro. I had no problem activating it or anything. I just did it through Windows update. I upgraded all of the capable machines in my house.
I still use Windows 10 in the office because my office computer doesn't qualify. I don't notice any real differences other than some of the menus are different, and the Win 10 installation manages to crash at least twice a week.
If I were you, I would open up an account at Elevenforum and see what people have to say there. I think you might find that quite a few people are happy with Windows 11 and some people aren't. Just keep in mind that support for Windows 10 ends in a couple of years. That may influence your decision.
Thanks for your reply. I think I am going to do the upgrade to win 11. I just don't know how to find it in updates since the first time it was offered I said I wanted to not upgrade at that time. I did crate an account at Elevenforums.
After typing this reply I checked my updates and once again the option to download and install Win 11 is there. I think I will do the upgrade. Is there anything I need to disable like antivirus or anything else when I do the update to Win 11
It is always a sensible precaution to make a system image backup before starting an upgrade.
Disabling any 3rd party AV is recommended. More recommendations here:
