    Explorer keeps crashing when previewing any type of file

    So I keep getting this problem it seems a couple times a week now where selecting any type of file except .jpgs and .mp4s causes windows explorer to crash when the preview pane is turned on. Any kind of MS office file type and PDFs cause explorer to stall when trying to preview and is really annoying because I have to close out of everything I am doing and restart.

    It seems that its been always doing this but getting worse ever since I started recording everything I do with OBS instant replay to try to catch another unrelated bug. I have tried clearing explorer history but that didn't help. Any ideas before I reset this thing?

    Get a copy of:

    Explorer++ - Download

    Run it and within the GUI browse to a problem file. Right click the problem file. If it doesn't crash then please post a screenshot of the right click context menu.

    OBS? Perhaps you mean this?

    Open Broadcaster Software | OBS

    It seems that it's been always doing this but getting worse ever since I started recording everything I do with OBS instant replay
    Try a clean boot (Google or see tutorial if unsure how). Then try previews.
    - I.e. eliminate possible effects of 3rd party programs.

    Still problems? Boot to Safe Mode.
    Only Windows default types will be previewable (e.g. txt, jpg, rtf).

    Tracker Software Products :: Knowledge Base :: How do I re-register the shell extensions?

    Press: Setup Utility
    follow directions there

    In the app's options, see if there's something similar to "Disabling File Explorer Preview Handler" ... or something similar.

    - how does disabling the extensions help here? Might stop the crashing but doesn't solve the underlying problem. Is this meant as a diagnostic step?

    (If I wished to change preview handler associations, I'd use a small free utility - Preview Handler Association Editor).

    I think I'm just going to reset windows, and maybe this time stop using pirated software. Perhaps that is the reason why I have so many issues
