Copy/Paste folders to another folder, folders arrive unpacked and mis

    Greetings!
This issue seems to affect just one folder in my data drive, has to be a setting?
Say I have a folder in Documents called Widgets. I copied a group of folders from another folder and tried to paste the copied folders into the Widget folder. All the folders I pasted into Widgets disappeared, but their unpacked contents pasted into the Widgets folder. I want them to remain in their folders. It seems only this one folder "Widgets" does this.

Note: I deleted the Widget folder and created a new folder labeled Widget. I then pasted the folders again and this time they stayed intact. It must be something that I changed in the original folder that I had so much trouble with. Now that I have worked around this, it's anyone's guess what I did originally, If you recognize what happens here it would be appreciated.

As long as you found a solution, I wouldn't think about it.

    What my thoughts are:

(oh first, welcome to Ten Forums, and)

    • It's possible that you have a 3rd party application that specifically focuses on the "Widgets" folder, which is named, specifically "Widgets", and anything that goes in that specific folder, then it... modifies/extracts, by how you stated. I am not 100% sure if Windows does that automatically. Dunno. Who knows?

    • If you want to, as a little test trial, you said you deleted the Widgets folder right?
Re-create the "Widgets" folder, and try copying folders into there. Does it still do the same thing?

    • And like spunk said: If you can copy the folders into the "Widget" folder, then I guess that's a solution, if it doesn't bother you much that.... Widget is not pluralized.

I would put Widgets in the Widgets folder, yet I put Music in my Music folder... hehehe,.. English =þ

...YET as a matter of fact, if my second thought does not work, we can go advanced. There are "Unicode" characters that look exactly like alphabetical letters. And If you replace one of those letters with the "Unicode" character, which is an alternate letter in the word, which looks exactly like a letter you replaced in that word, then that issue in "Widgets", most likely, wouldn't happen anymore...

    Example:
Copy/Paste folders to another folder, folders arrive unpacked and mis-image.png
They look almost exactly the same... but they have 1 different character from each other.
...Pop quiz! Guess which letter! hahaha

    Thanks for the welcome,
Well, I deleted the original file folder and created a new one giving it the same name as before. Went to a backup drive, copied contents of that folder and pasted into the new folder. Worked out just fine. I like to know why things do what they do so in windows or office so here I am. Somehow, I or my PC corrupted the original folder which I had issues with.
I don't use cloud or web-based storage, so nothing is syncing. I use a SSD for programs and a HDD for my data files, HDD for backup. Alas, as Spunk said, I found a way so unless it gets to be a habit, I'll let it go.

Okay! That's good! It's always good to learn things!! This site is a really good place to learn things about Windows 10. There's like tutorials written by Brink; you should check them out. His guides are very informative, with many illustrations and easy to follow along!
    Glad you're here =)

And one tiny thing is sometimes... we could figure out "why" things happen, but then we also figure out how to fix things without really knowing .."why" they started happening in the first place lol. For example, who knows why the old "Widgets" folder had issues. I was assuming some external program was "attached" to it, but I guess not lol.
We get confused too sometimes! lol, So we're always learning new stuff too. I know a bunch about Windows, since XP, way back in the day. Used that operating system when I was a kid. Now I'm like... thirty something. Who knows. You know? ...because I don't, lol.

(Me asking Siri on my phone: "Hey Siri, how old am I?"
Siri: "I don't know what year you were born."
    Me: "Oh... thanks")

    😅 😅 😅
