I have win 10 x 64 on a surface 5. When win 10 support expires. Can i still use S5 and for how long? I use it for reading eBooks and puzzle games. It was not cheap and doubt if I could sell it on.
You can use it as long as you want. Just install a third party antivirus and keep it updated if you are too concerned about security. You can even upgrade to Windows 11 for free. Download latest Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft's site: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 Right-click on the ISO and select Mount (or Open With Windows Explorer). Run Setup and it will upgrade to the respective Windows 11 version (Home or Pro). Windows will activate automatically using your existing digital license.
win 11 will not go into my 5. Every time I do an update it tells me not compatible with win 11. I also ran MS PC health check and it says the same thing. I am trying it now on my tablet just in case your link works. I have downloaded it but I can never understands all those codes and scripts so not going to bother, will delete. AS soon as I see the letters ISO I run, in the opposite direction

Yea, I agree with the post earlier; if Windows 11 wouldn't want to install, then get a really good Anti-virus program, and have it auto-update itself at all times, once support for Windows 10 expires:

(But also keep in mind: I've heard that there ..may.. be a version of Windows 11 that could install on ..older.. hardware... so... keep your fingers crossed on that idea... who knows.)

incompatible is the word, everywhere, whatever I use. 5 is Win 10 and was made well before 11. Surface tablets are now up to 10 I believe. I will have a look for this 'rufus' soonest
edit: just checked, is it the stick boot programme?
Rufus is a utility that reads the ISO that you download and creates a bootable Windows Setup USB. If Windows 11 ISO is detected you are asked if you want to patch it to automatically bypass compatibility check. Select all options, create the USB and then run Setup from there for upgrade or clean installation. For unsupported computers it is also recommended to disconnect from the internet during the upgrade to avoid any secret online compatibility check or other interruption. You can connect again when the upgrade is complete.
