Problems transferring Game Icons from one folder to another?

    This one has me beat?
I had a problem with Steam, and ended up having to re-install Steam and all my games (over 200). Anyway I have a shortcut folder with all these reinstalled games shortcut icons which now all display as white blanks.
When I re-installed the Steam games, each game placed a new picture Icon on my desktop (C drive), but my game shortcut Icon folder is on my D drive, so I tried moving the new replacement icons into the correct sub folders in my shortcut icon folder.
The problem is that every picture icon I move into the D drive changes from a picture to a white blank, and I have been unable to find a way to transfer these icons without this happening?

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated?

Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10

Sounds like icon cache corruption, Steam should not be putting icons on the desktop like this unless you tell it to do that manually. The only other reason would be corrupt icon cache and you must of had icons here at one point.

If your shortcut icons in D drive are targeting apps that no longer exist then the icons will still be blank.

All the games have been re-installed to the same steam folder, some of the games have picked up the picture icons without a problem, but the majority will only show a white blank, but clicking on the white blank still loads the correct game with no problems?

Do those problem icons still point to the correct game folder? By moving them it may have broke the icon.

Yes they do! All games work from the icons as long as I don't move them. I think you are right _ I am going to take new icons from the steam folder and try placing them in the respective game folders to see if they will solve the problem. I will let you know if this works?

Hopefully that’ll sort the problem out.

It seems like the old paths to where the icons came from are now stale. Thus is why they are white, null and void. Did you ever rebuild the icon cache that was mentioned in post # 2?

In a nutshell, you need correct paths to the game shortcuts...

No I did not re-build the icon cache, but taking the shortcut icons from the main steam folder works! Although it is going to take quite some time to replace all the white icons in my shortcut folders as there are nearer 300 that need replacing.
Anyway the problem can be solved now with a little work! So thank you both for your help!

After you get done restoring all those icons, check out a program called DesktopOK. DesktopOK 10.88 Save and restore the desktop icon positions.

I use it myself because sometimes if I change screen resolution or something my icons are all messed up. This programs allows all the icons to go back to where they were with a few clicks.
