Language bar reappears every so often by itself.

    1. Copy-paste this in a file Remove_en-US.xml :
    Code:
    <gs:GlobalizationServices xmlns:gs="urn:longhornGlobalizationUnattend">
        <!--User List-->
        <gs:UserList>
            <gs:User UserID="Current"/>
        </gs:UserList>
        <!--input preferences-->
        <gs:InputPreferences>
            <!--add en-US keyboard input-->
            <gs:InputLanguageID Action="add" ID="0409:00000409"/>
            <!--remove en-US keyboard input-->
            <gs:InputLanguageID Action="remove" ID="0409:00000409"/>
        </gs:InputPreferences>
    </gs:GlobalizationServices>
    2. Copy-paste this in a batchfile in the same folder:
    Code:
    control intl.cpl,, /f:"%CD%\Remove_en-US.xml"
    3. Run the batchfile.
    Sorry for taking so long to try this out, but yes it seems to work, but does require to not tinker with the current language (even if not applying it), otherwise the kb layout is readded. So repair install using local language iso or your trick seem to work.

    I toggled the options which would normally make it reappear (the switching input method stuff) and it stays off.

    I had definitely done Repair installs / In-place upgrades using en-gb ISO files / USBs before the [very confused] steps I reported before so I don't think your solution will be that simple.
    I hope that Change System UI Language - TenForumsTutorials will resolve matters for you.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
    Luckily all seems good after the in-place upgrade install now on both laptop and PC, I had to reapply the latest CU, and all seems well. The en-us language is completely removed now on both systems.

    I'm glad it has all been sorted out.
    I'll keep a note of this thread ready for when I decide to repeat the change for another computer - I'll still be very tempted to just clean install with en-gb but at least now I can see better options than my confused notes from before led me to believe.

    All the best,

    Yeah, if it re-appears you can simply run the batchfile again and the problem should again be fixed instantly, no reboot nor logon/logoff required. The benefit of this old trick IMO is that you can still choose to repair install to get a (hopefully) more permanent fix at a later point in time, when you have the time and patience to do so. Doing a repair install reverts some of Windows settings, and, wading through alll of them to find out which ones have been reverted can be a bit of pain. (And no use trying to keep an exhaustive list of these I would guess, as Windows Update will just render the list pretty much obsolete anyway, probably sooner than later, so...)

    Its in a on demand task now for convenience. Hell I could just run the task every minute as insurance.

    Interestingly I did find this gem, which might give some answers as to why I suddenly started seeing this issue last few weeks.

    Neno Loje's Treasury: When using Remote Desktop the keyboard layout always defaults to EN (English)

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
    "IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout"=dword:00000001
    Seems should tame remote desktop causing havoc on the keyboard mayhem.

    Hmmm... another classical textbook example of Mc Guyver style problem solving on Windows. I like that. lol

    Well I have now added a task schedule, I had created the task for manual run at the time of the last post, and since installing the en-gb windows everything was great for months, but suddenly a week ago it came back, I removed it and it came back 3 times since, so something has happened on the system to retrigger and its now triggering me.

    But on those occasions I didnt remove using the cpl command, I have just done so now and added it to run on every logon of my account.

    The culprit app in this case is imperium galactica from steam which runs using a distributed dosbox, my old standalone dosbox doesnt do it though so its something unique to the imperium galactica configuration, every launch of the game pops up the ENG on the task bar.

    Another culprit is starting qemu as part of rmprepusb, so seems emulators might be prone to adding the US keyboard, the good news as long as I am not using these apps, the control panel script has kept it off again, so I probably dont need to keep it automated as I feared I would need to.
