If you are having problems with Windows 10 search feature, you can follow the steps in this video to repair it.
To other potential respondents
- please, don't start recommending 3rd party search tools again. We have a responsibility to actually try to answer the question asked. Thanks.
Please post a screenshot clearly showing..
- what you are searching for
- where file explorer is open in your file system
- your Indexing Options (found e.g. in your control panel) like this:
- a screenshot showing the result of running the troubleshooter (see e.g. that screenshot or via Settings).
Your question gives nothing much to go on.. detail needed.
E.g. if file explorer is open BELOW the point in your file hierarchy at which the item you're searching for exists, it will not be found, naturally enough.
The item you are searching for has to exist below the point at which file explorer is open.
Searching will occur even if indexing is disabled- just much more slowly.
Exactly what do you see happen when you start the search?
HISTORY
So many posters don;t give the background to their question.
- when did this problem start?
- when did you last use search successfully?
- what (if anything) changed from that point?
I suggest you rebuild the search index
Rebuild Search Index - TenForumsTutorials
and then, if necessary, run the search troubleshooter
Settings, Update, Troubleshoot, Additional troubleshooters, Search & indexing.
After all that, you could consider
Indexer Diagnostics App - TenForumsTutorials
Best of luck,
Denis
As yet we can at best only hazard a wild guess as to what the problem is - insuffiicient data to reach a logical conclusion, Captain.
Suggesting remedies at present is shooting in the dark (without night vision).
Even if there's a problem with search indexing, file explorer would start a slow search (think green progress bar).
Literally reading the question, file explorer does find something... it finds
'noting'.
I.e. search is functional to some degree ...
Use google to search for everything.
Let Me Google That
Erhy,
I'm glad it has been sorted out.
All the best,
Denis
Oh, and a belated welcome to TenForums.
It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.- At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.- Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
- I download a new copy each month.
- By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
- Both tutorial lists are searchable.
- You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials
You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
- You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
- [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]
