"You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"

    Hi All

    Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2 Build 19045.3031

This App has stopped functioning for reasons I am unaware of after using it for many years now!

I hope I can get some assistance in repairing this issue.

    ERROR Prompt:
"You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"-13-05-2023_154657.jpg

"Windows Event Viewer" Report 1 and 2
"You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"-event-view-1.jpg
"You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"-event-view-2.jpg

I have noted "Error code 2147942405" and performed a web search - results come back as a "Permission Issue".

I have tried a number of methods to remedy the issue relating to "Permission" via the Security Tab>Advanced etc of the below "APP folder" :
    C:\Program Files\WindowsApp\SinewSoftwareSystems.EnpassPasswordManager_6.86.1360.0_x86__fwdy0m65qb6h2
    and all have failed

I have tried to resolve this with the Developer "Enpass" without success - they cannot reproduce the issue.

I have supplied a "PDF Link" explaining more - including my Windows "Services" list for scrutiny.
    Dropbox - 404

Any assistance would be much appreciated

    Thanks for your reply Samuria

I am not sure whether you saw the "attachment link" in my post.
(if you could not open it - please let me know)

    1. The "permission" relating to the folder is the issue?

I don't know the correct settings for this folder as they belong to a third party "Enpass Password Manager App"(updated automatically)
that I downloaded from Microsoft Store and have been using for some years now - I tried various settings - comparing them against other Microsoft Apps in the "C:\Program Files\WindowsApp" folder. (example included in the attached file)

The only reason I have attempted the investigation into "permission" is due to the Error Prompt Box (picture in my previous post) that appears when I try to enable/open from the Start Menu.

I have attempted to change "ownership" of the folder, file and files without any success.
I have also attempted to manually remove registry entries relating to all Enpass and SinewSoftwareSystems (developer) references without any success.

    2. Correct me if I am wrong, Your term "ABOVE" if I am correct, relates to Administration Rights. Local Account etc This is a Home PC and does not belong to a "workgroup".

    3. The Error Code within the "Windows Event Viewer" shows some interesting returns as well i.e. security, cryptography etc

Overall, it has me stumped as to why it has just stopped working. I am not convinced that this issue constitutes a Windows Reset or Re-installation as everything else seems to be running fine - of course, any assistance is extremely appreciated

Have you tried ---settings>apps & features >click on the problem programme >select Modify ?
This should allow repairs to be carried out on the programme.
Also look in Reliability History and see if there are entries and/or flags covering the failure time.If so,then ---view tech details ---will give data on the failure.
If there isn't any ---view tech details ---just a note saying it stopped working, then Left click on the note, then RIGHT click on it and that should give a report which was sent to Microsoft.

    Thanks for the reply joeandmarg0

    1. The "Modify" feature does not exist for Microsoft Apps (only installed exe's)
    2. The "Reliability History" only shows over the last 8 weeks various Information Events e.g. Successful Installation of the App and NO Critical Events for this App.

This one is going to put everyone to the test by the looks of it.

I do appreciate all the assistance in helping resolve this issue guys, thank you all.

    Thanks tomdsr

Only if it was that easy.

I have tried many times to uninstall and reinstall the App without any success.
It always ends up being a "Permission Issue"

I have also performed many "Scans & Cleans, System Restore's etc" with various software to no prevail.

    Thanks anyway

Do you think "Take Ownership" works?

Add Take Ownership to Context Menu in Windows 10

How is SinewSoftwareSystems listed as a Microsoft app.It should be as a third party listing.
In any case, even if listed as Microsoft, when selected you should be presented with ---Advanced Options ---which then gives Repair ---Reset and Uninstall as options.
If not then the Operating System is corrupt,The above are Microsoft's own installed tools and must be present.
Suggest you run in Powershell [admin] ---dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---and when finished successfully, then run ---sfc /scannow ---until a clean report is produced.
This repairs Windows without data loss.

Hi pepanee - thanks for the reply

Take Ownership Did not work either!

    joeandmarg0 - thanks again

As I mentioned a few days ago in my previous post, the App was downloaded from the Microsoft Store as a Third Party app -it's not a Microsoft app, the developers have chosen to have it distributed via the MS Store due security concerns as the previous Enpass "exe"install was vulnerable.

I have performed a Windows Reset and all is well.

Thanks again to those who offered their assistance, it was much appreciated.
