Something flashing up onscreen - what is it?

For a few weeks now, every night at 23.50, something flashes on my screen. I'm usually watching something at that time, so it's impossible to miss.

It's too fast to see what it is, but it looks like a window that appears then disappears in about a second.

How can I find out what it is? I assume there might be a log somewhere but I've no idea where to start looking.

    Thanks

    Hello @SaggyMaggyPoo,

Copy & Paste the following commands into a CMD Prompt and press Enter. The information that they produce may be useful to you for diagnostics and trouble-shooting.

    Scheduled Tasks:

    Code:

PowerShell "Get-ScheduledTask | Select State, TaskName, TaskPath | Sort-Object -Property State, TaskNamee | Format-Table -AutoSize"

    Scheduled Tasks - Maintenance Settings:

    Code:

    PowerShell "Get-ScheduledTask | Where-Object {$_.Settings.MaintenanceSettings} | Select State, TaskName, TaskPath | Sort-Object -Property State, TaskNamee | Format-Table -AutoSize"

    I hope this helps.

If you run Task scheduler [taskschd.msc] then select [on the left-hand side] Task scheduler [local] you will see Task status in the middle of the window.
Set that to Last 24 hours or greater then look through for tasks run at about 23:50.
You could then burrow down within Task scheduler library to find out more details about the task you've identified.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

I was gonna mention Event Viewer. Look at these three sections, and see if you can find a log of whatever that is at, or close to, that exact time:

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

Task Scheduler shows this to be related to CCleaner crash reporting.

I rarely use CCleaner these days (I forget) but I'm guessing that this started happening from the last time I intalled the newest version, which was around 2 months ago.

I've disabled it so I can see if the flashing stops later tonight.

I checked this for a couple of nights and the flashing has stopped, so a good result.

    Many thanks for the help.
