How to get cursor to stop expanding in size so often?

I am taking notes on my computer for homework and sometimes when I'm doing that I see my cursor get much larger than it should be and I'm not sure how to fix that. If someone could let me know how to make sure my cursor stays the same size all the time that would be great!👍

    What program to take notes?

Cursor : "stick" cursor or pointer (or equivalent based on settings)?

Any 3rd party Windows customisation installed ?

EDIT : Accidental brushing touchpad (although not sure of any setting that would allow this action to vary cursor size?) ?

Never seen that unless you have made changes with accessibility or added software that does that.

^^This. Suggest you check these settings. Easy to accidentally select certain key combinations and cause this to happen (if it's not turned off in Settings)

EDIT Was unable to find a specific setting that might this to happen, but then again, we are dealing with Microsoft ....

The cursor that I see when it expands usually is the stick version, not the pointer. There are also no 3rd party Windows customizations that I know of, and I'm not sure that there's anything going on with me possibly brushing the touchpad by accident, and I'm not really sure how to change any settings related to that. If you could let me know what could possibly be causing this so I can prevent it from happening that would be great!

I don't believe I made any changes to accessibility, or added any software that could possibly mess with the cursor size. Should I just factory reset my computer and hope that will fix the problem?

As far as I know I made no changes to the Accessibility settings, so do you not know where I could find the right options to take care of this problem?

A wild guess, but is it possible you're seeing the different cursors for 'Insert Mode' and and 'Overwrite Mode'?

It gets toggled by pressing [ Insert ] on the keyboard, which is near the [ Delete ] key where it can then accidentally get pressed. Most editors will show which mode is currently in operation, for instance here's the cursors for Notepad++.

I don't think I'm pressing the Insert key, and the only editor I was using was Google Docs. Also I'd like to add that whenever the cursor gets bigger I can't seem to click on text correctly. In other words, it seems select text a couple characters behind where I click, so I'm really not sure what to do at this point except perhaps factory reset.

It appears there's others with similar problems for years now with Google Docs, and various theories and fixes, from tab refreshing, to custom fonts, to using other than the default document zooms.

Why is my cursor showing up in the wrong place when I try to type?

I factory reset my computer like I said I would do and it seems the problem went away completely. I went back to Google Docs before the factory reset and noticed that anytime I move the cursor outside of the Window and then drag it back to the document, it would unfortunately enlarge which was the problem. As soon as I did the reset the problem stopped happening, and I even checked Google Docs to make sure. I appreciate the help!😊
