    Notification Area - Taskbar problem?

In Settings/Personalisation/Taskbar/Select which icons appear on the taskbar: there are a few icons that are no longer installed on my PC that I would like to remove? I know this can be done, but I have forgotten how to do this?
Can someone please tell me how to remove them?

You could simply unpin them from the taskbar.

In your taskbar, right click the icon and click 'Unpin from taskbar'.

My apology, if I have misunderstood your question.

Unpin from taskbar - from the huge searchable Tutorial section:
'Pin to taskbar' and 'Unpin from taskbar' Apps in Windows 10

Do feel free to have a look at the tutorial section - many practical illustrated solutions to common usage questions.

Note that you would find you had fewer leftovers after uninstalling if you routinely used a (free/paid) 3rd party uninstaller which first runs the standard uninstall, as created by the author, then scans for leftovers.

E.g. Geek Uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller ....

I use Ashampoo Uninstaller 12 which also does a deep clean of leftover files. But that is not what I am asking about, please read my first post again (I have modified it to perhaps make more sense.) I am asking for a way to remove icons from the Settings menu Personalisation "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" section. If you navigate to that section you will know the type of icon I am trying to remove?

If you had perhaps posted a screenshot that would have helped.

I think with the long taskbar shown in your signature the post read very much as if you were referring to that.

    Hello @Willabong,

You can use the method in the tutorial below to reset the notification area icons to also clear the "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" list in Settings.

That long taskbar heading is actually a section heading in the personalisation/taskbar menu! And it is in that named section that the startup icons are stored that you can allow or restrict from displaying on the taskbar. But some of the entries in there are no longer installed programs on my PC, so I would like to remove those entries/icons?

Correct. You can use the method in the tutorial below to reset the notification area icons to also clear the "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" list in Settings. It will automatically repopulate with the apps still installed.
