    Folder Content Preview

Hello. I am new to the forum and would really appreciate some help.

On my external portable 2tb/1tb hard drives, randomly (ie some days this is not a problem), when I open a new folder and add images, the folder does not show a preview of the added image in the icon.

This is very important to me as I am sorting thousand of photographs and I need to preview the image added to a particular folder on the folder icon. Screenshots show what I mean when working as it should and when not.

The only way to preview the folder icon image is to right click on the folder>properties>customise>folder icons>restore to default. But I have to do this on every folder and it is very time consuming. Some days new folders I open and add images to automatically show the image added which is what I want.

I have tried this on my main computer hard drive and on other drives conected internally and it works fine.

I have searched and searched for an answer and tried numerous suggestion but nothing has worked so far. Thank you for any help you can offer.

    Welcome to the forums.

    First, save your current theme.
    Do: Option One
    Save Theme in Windows 10

    And then, I found this:
    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...Apply%20Button.
Method 1. Select any other theme you see there. Doesn't have to be like in that example.
Right click your Desktop -> Personalize
    Themes

    I'd try this one:
    Folder Content Preview-image.png

Change your theme to that theme, temporarily, and try to reproduce the issue you're having.
If changing the theme solves the issue, then build within that new theme, set your background picture, etc...

Hello. Thank you for your help. I have worked through all your suggestion above but unfortunatelly no joy.

They do however made sense regarding cache size.

I have found something else that solves the problem - I have to copy my folders on to another drive and then copy them back and this then shows the icon image, but again, very time consuming and very strange.

If you think of anything else, please let me know.

There are some things you could experiment with here some of which may be related:
Why Thumbnails Preview Not Showing in Windows 10?

(Yes, the initial issue there is not the same as yours)
