    File Explorer not running

Win 10, File Explorer has been getting flakey requiring a reboot, but now it doesn't work at all. "This PC (Not Responding)"

Any tips? Can I reinstall File Explorer? Is there an alternative to File Explorer?

    Hello @SteveMann,

Have you tried the following ?

    - Looked in Task Manager > Processes > Windows Explorer and CLOSED ANY that are there ?
    - Run this in CMD Prompt > explorer.exe ?

Hi, is your only problem that clicking 'This PC' does not launch file explorer?

E.g. if you click any other folder, does f. explorer launch?

How about win key + e?

And for reference (a typical diagnostic check) -
    - create a new user for test purposes
    - log in as that user

Does clicking This PC launch f. explorer?

(You can log out and delete that user account).

    Thanks.

    Can I reinstall File Explorer?
    No.
Is there an alternative to File Explorer?
Yes, but not precisely as such as f.explorer is used for the Desktop display, and the control panel for example.

Explorer launches normally from Win+e or clicking on the Explorer icon in the taskbar. My problem is that when the Explorer window opens, it is stuck on "Working on it" forever.

I will try the suggestions from Paul Black (above), but thanks for your input.

In addition to the check I described above you should..
    a. check your disk(s) e.g. with Crystal Diskinfo (free)
    b. If ok run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    from an admin command prompt.

    If ok, then see

    and try each in turn.

Have you tried ---Powershell [admin] >dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ---followed by ---sfc /scannow ---to eliminate any possible file corruption ?
