If your kitchen table wobbles you could put this laptop under one leg of the table to make it balance.
Aside from that I cannot think of any use for a laptop that's over fifteen years old.

Also ... in your area ... isn't there are prohibition against disposing of electronics in the trash?
Around here you have to take it to a proper recycling facility ... for a fee.
So it might be that the person who put that laptop in the dumpster was just avoiding that fee.
    But now it's your problem.
Not really a problem though because they got a free computer? you could still play World of Warcraft on that PC and that says a lot.

The old owner must of been PC illiterate hence also why something like this ended up in the trash, Athlon had a good long run and they are still good in anyone's collection if you know how to finesse these older models and don't expect more than they can do. Pity its a laptop would be better in desktop form because you can do more with it but free is good i guess.

That might be truer with newer Ahtlon64s but not older ones. My oldest laptop had an early Athlon64 2.2GHz CPU from 2004. The motherboard was too old to have working drivers for anything beyond Windows 7. That made no difference anyways because it ran slowly in Windows 7. However, it had a dedicated GPU so ran old games like GTA San Andreas just fine.

yep can still play wow on it though. Older PC are stuck in their windows counterpart for the most part unless you want to use basic Microsoft drivers or in some case you may luck out and the old drivers will still work on newer OS even though they have never been updated since back in the day.

it depends or Linux is obviously an option the point i was trying to make was that these older computers are still useful to some degree but it depends on what you expect from them.

You could still code on that PC or you could do like a Linux terminal that is controlling a host somewhere else or you could play some games on still or you could use it for a browser. I mean there is plenty of things a PC like that can still do.

before hyper threading so yeah its slow but free is free

Sorry after just looking at it it had multi threading X2 denotes multi core it gets hard to remember that far back sometimes.

on a Athlon X2 desktop though which will be slightly better for obvious reasons.
