    Copying Files in Windows Explorer

    Hello,

I have encountered a problem where I am trying to make copies of backups on external hard drives - ie I have one external hard drive that I am trying to copy stuff from, to another external hard drive that is connected to the same computer - there are quite a large numbers of files as this is mainly photos and videos, and to be efficient I am trying to do them in as big a chunks as possible (100GB+). This has worked on many occasions, but sometimes I get it where it just won't do the copy - it seems to think about it and then the copy screen comes up and then the green chart shows up for less than a second, goes to 100%, but nothing actually copies (rather than it taking a number of hours, what I would expect).

Does anyone know why my computer may be doing this? I really don't want to spend the time copying groups of photos or sub folders as it will take ages!

I am running Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

    Thanks, Craig

You can try a dedicated copy tool e.g. Teracopy, Robocopy (command line + GUI), Fastcopy
    FastCopy

Depending on what you are attempting to do, it may be easier to copy a whole partition.

Are you simply trying to create a duplicate of a backup drive, or something more specific?

Sometimes copying can be a problem.

Naturally you will have done some simple checks on the disks and the file system.

If you do the same thing repeatedly, better to have a tool set up to do it for you than doing it by hand.
