    file TITLE too large

    file TITLE too large-filelong16.jpg

I have a seagate 4T drive with videos on it,
Just got a new WD MyBook 6T drive.
i often get the file too long message when i tried to copy the files to mybook.
they fit on the seagate drive, why not just allow a backup copy?
i followed every online instruction to make sure it is not a FAT file system, but none of them worked!
i copied the whole drive to the mybook.
    thanks all

We're are you copying to the file may be ok but if you add the folder or folders to the file name it can become to long

    Hello @anon125,

Yes, with the addition of the Path and Folder[s] etc, it has made it too long.

As a test, Copy one file to the Desktop or Root Directory, and then Copy & Paste it to wherever to see if it works. That way, you will know if it is that or something else.

    I hope this helps.

so it happily was copied to the seagate drive, but copying to the mybook is a nono!
it is probably, as you suggest a file in a sub folder.
    thanks

I'm trying to find the sentence you were looking at to use that statement for. I cannot find the sentence that would make sense with that quote. Which sentence are you looking at in which you can reply to, using that quote?

I see that error all the time. You can solve the problem several ways
    1. Shorten the file name
    2. Shorten the path length
    3. Do both steps 1 and 2

BTW, you can shorten the path length two ways

    1. Simplify it. For example:
    From:
    Folder1 > Folder2 > Folder3 > Folder4 > Folder5 > Folder6
    To:
    Folder1 > Folder2 > Folder3

    2. Shorten the path part names. For example:
    From:
    Folder1 > Folder2 > Folder3 > Folder4 > Folder5 > Folder6
    To:
    Fold1 > Fold2 > Fold3 > Fold4 > Fold5 > Fold6
