In Windows 10. My small digital C drive was full so I moved some stuff to my 1T D drive to free up space. Now when I try to open a Word document I get a box shown in the attachment. It Says:
Word experienced an error when trying to open the file... How do I fix this?

Rather than digging deep for security permissions, here’s a simple way to add the take ownership option to the right-click context menu.

There are things you can't move without breaking something.
There is plenty of guidance available on tenforums on how you can save space on C: correctly.

I moved the contents of the documents, download, and pictures folders to the D drive and placed them in new folders that I named DOCS, DNLD, and PICS
That would mean the shortcut for the file is still pointing to the C: drive and you have to Right click it and choose Path and Browse it to the correct Drive D:.That dialog says it attempted to open a file on your C drive.

- no need to do it that way- moving the content - just the files- is actually far safer and separates the folders in e.g. Documents created by 3rd party programs from your own.I hope you Moved your Documents etc folders this way Move Location of Documents Folder in Windows 10
-> So do check you haven't moved folders related to 3rd party programs as well as your own files.

The risk being with that is that it's very easy to make a mistake, and if you do, it's hard to impossible to reverse it. Which is why those tutorials include a recommendation to create a disk image before using them.
Plus, if you were to move those folders, they still contain any added by 3rd party programs.
You also then have the dilemma as to how you back up your O/S using disk imaging so you can securely restore it - you need to image both C: and the partition or disk to which you've moved those folders simultaneously.
I.e. too many issues and disadvantages.
