New Laptop Win 11 Home to Win 10 Pro

I have been selling bits and pieces and will hopefully have enough money in about a month or so to buy the following new Laptop.

Code:

ACER Aspire 3 15.6" Laptop
Windows 11 Home
Intel Core i5-1135G7 Processor
Quad-Core
2.4 GHz / 4.2 GHz
6 MB Cache
8 GB DDR4 RAM [ Unfortunately it is only upgradable to 12 GB DDR4 RAM ]
256 GB SSD

Anyway, I am going to install Win 10 Pro [ my preference ] by performing a Clean Install WITHOUT being connected to the Internet. I will enter the Win 10 Pro Key after the installation has completed.

I will obviously create a System Image and backup ALL the Device Drivers FIRST in case there is a problem and I need them. I am NOT interested in creating a Dual-Boot Win 10/11.

My question is, will I have any problems considering that it comes with Win 11 HOME please ?

I am just trying to pre-empt any potential problems or anomalies.

The Acer Aspire 3 doesn't appear to be a particularly new PC simply based on that information alone, so installing Win 10 on it shouldn't be an issue (only based on that, and without checking its manufacturer's driver page).

I assume you've done that check yourself.. does it show Win 10 is supported?

Yes, I did check that, and as far as I can see, it does. There are MANY that I looked at that do NOT support Win 10, well, without a lot of mucking about that is, which is NOT what I want.

Check there are win10 drivers and what software comes with the laptop as there may be some software thats needed supplied by OEM. As ssds are so cheap I would by a 500gig ssd keep the old one and put the new one in and do the clean install

Well, it is now a 10+ year old Laptop that I managed to install a customised ISO on to. I want something new [ other than a second hand one ] with higher specifications.

My current customised Win 10 installation is 14 GB and will be virtually the same for the new Laptop. I have separate drives [ partitions ] for data and imaging, so the supplied 256 GB SSD will be plenty.

I don't think I've ever bought a new laptop. My 'supplier of choice' is Cash Converters. There's a surprising number of almost new machines in their stock.

I must admit that I also have NEVER bought a new computer, but I thought that I would treat myself.

Thinking about it now though [ the possible aggravation of Win 11 to Win 10 ], I may well investigate sourcing one again. That way, I can get a higher specification computer currently running Win 10 [ so I know Win 10 works on it ] for less money.

At some risk of boring you [and Bree], decide which power states you want and find out which your shortlisted new laptop has.
- If S0 Modern standby suits you then check it has it.
- If you are after a proper computer with S3 Sleep then find out if it has it [or if it can be enabled by disabling S0 Modern standby - not all laptops can enable it at all].

I'm also about to buy a new laptop.
- Dell sales were unable to answer my question and Dell Tech support are not allowed to offer pre-purchase advice [they are only allowed to troubleshoot post-purchase]
- HP sales were unable to answer my question but were able to put me through to somebody in tech support who could.
