Nothing will install in windows. This is whats wrong. I have the Realtek driver on an external but refuses to install.
When I go to "show non plugin play drivers the ghost drivers show up. I added safe mode with networking to the boot menu so its there if I need it and still nothing works.

Do I need to uninstall these ghost drivers? If i do, then whats the procedure for the new install?

Is there a handy free program that can clean these drivers out. Drivers were always PIA.

You will need to install device driver from normal boot of Windows 10.

Have I missed something or are you really announcing this for the first time in post #22?

I assume you are not running Windows 10 S mode.

You mean that it is on a USB stick / an external disk connected by USB?
You had not announced that before either unless I'm going blind.
If you've got that far then the iPhone is no longer relevant. You can just copy the driver onto your computer.
[I thought we were discussing separate WiFi & Bluetooth drivers but you just used the singular "the Realtek driver" above.]
And then you can re-try installing it from there and report back with the error symptoms including screenshots to avoid ambiguity.

If the driver refuses to install without any indication then it is merely the wrong driver then try SFC then, if necessary, try a Repair install. If neither of those work you are faced with a Clean install.
    SFC - TenForumsTutorials
    Repair Install - TenForumsTutorials {note that, despite its name, this is a repair procedure not an installation}
Clean Install - TenForumsTutorials and, in preparation for one, consider Backup and Restore Device Drivers - TenForumsTutorials

I had never noticed that FreeBooter tutorial about installing in Safe mode.
I think you need to fix the fault first - to work through SFC & then possibly a Repair install to clear the fault that is blocking installations. Then you won't need Safe mode to do the job anyway.

As stated, you can't install any drivers or software in Safe Mode. You have to boot into Normal Mode. When you install a Driver from a USB, it will overwrite any "Ghost Drivers"

Yes, it will. W10 and W11 will detect and your iPhone will be used to "approve" the USB device connection.

You can strip off photos and the like. However, you will also needs iTunes/iCloud or other programs to have it do anything useful.
Apple is simply wonderful at making simple things complex when it's not their OS.

That's one of the things I truly dislike about Apple.

    Brian,

I'm not sure what you are saying.
Can the OP transfer a file[within File explorer] across a USB cable from his iPhone without additional software?

Are you giving me 2 choices? both are the opposite of one another.
Hypothetically, if the corrupt driver wasn't showing at all in the device manager, how would you then install the driver?

Thanks, I'm going to add the windows installer like it says in the link you posted. That I needed to know, thank you.

I borrowed an external drive to do this with. Yes, the device manager shows the Blue tooth separate from the Realtek network adapter. I dunno if the Realtek driver is for both, i am assuming so. I don't know.

There 2 Microsoft Virtual Adapters like attached to the Realtek main wireless. These are greyed out with the Realtek right below it
    under "Network Adapters".

I have done this countless times in windows and it doesn't work. This is why I wanted to try safe mode with networking, but I
learn that the windows installer must be added for safe mode. I will do this because its the only choice I have left.
