Well, I can tell you that I was extremely glad I tried it in a VM and not on a real computer that was in use! Silly me, I thought it would be a click thing to turn off (with a password, of course) and the computer would go back to a normal condition ready to be sold. Not even close!
I know that feeling when you first go oh-nooo and then.. what a hell, just restore.. fixed
I usually have bare metal install for testing on an old desktop+an old laptop as VM's never tell the whole story when testing some stuff.. So i use disk-imaging to restore as we almost to with VM's. But this time i did test on a VM as I'm horsing-around with a win10pro to make it an LTSC version for me to use as dualboot on this computer I'm on now..

But it was in a way a bit fun to test this Demo mode
But we should warn all others in here to not test it on their main computers.. only on VM or a crap computer for testing.

Windows 10 Pro (+ Windows 10 Home VMs for testing)

Nothing that entering the following in an elevated PowerShell or commandline console won't fix... forever:
    sc.exe delete "RetailDemo"
