Explorer window opens up on its own

    Hello there,

Never in my life have I had this issue before. I recently removed Asus GameFirst VI program because I read it caused some issues. I believe it happened after that but I'm not 100% sure. It is also not something that happens every x minute. Is their an event log I can check to see what triggers it to open? I've ran SFC scan now and found no issues. I used CCleaner to delete bad reg entries. (about 300 of them)

What sometimes triggers it is switching from Chrome browser to a program called MetaTrader 5.

    My windows:

    Edition Windows 10 Pro
    Version 22H2
    Installed on ‎29/‎10/‎2022
    OS build 19045.2604
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4190.0

Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and ask if you want to schedule to next start = yes
    Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Back to Windows, open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    sfc /scannow

If it finds any corrupted files, fixing or not, reboot and run again

    Then run
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    and
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

You could try using Sysinternals Procmon (process monitor) free from MS.. this has a log of ALL activity from registry upwards, filterable.

Consequently it can be very hard to interpret meaningfully- the filters are significantly technical.

    How do you 'switch'?

Otherwise a process of elimination- e.g.
    - perform a clean boot - over 'sufficient' time observe whether explorer os launched.
    - add some startup programs, observe again

Repeat trying to identify with which program the launch of f. explorer is associated.

I'd never use a registry cleaner myself.
