W10 file explorer layout missing grouping divider

    Hello:

have a question with regards to the file explorer visual layout........I recently had to reinstall 10 & I've noticed that the grouping layout is now missing the divider that separates the discs section from the removable devices section.
now what I have is *Devices & Drives* all in one section.
The removable drives were located below the hard drives portion & there was a divider between them
I thought that winaero tweaker had a provision for looking after this seeing I do use it. The previous op/sys was displaying as I wanted.
Now I know that this is a registry tweak but I can't remember just what that tweak is.
Don't be alarmed by what you see ........This IS 10.

    thx for any help

The Group by choices are shown if you move your cursor to a blank area of the right-hand side & right-click.

But I don't think the choice you want is there so perhaps you do need to check WinAero as you suggested.

I have some old screenshots of ThisPC dating back to 2016 and none of them show your desired grouping [internal/external].

    Best of luck,

    Steve,

I haven't had an internal optical drive for over a decade so I do not know if you have a fault/faulty setting or if Windows 10 behaviour has changed at some stage.
    - It is perfectly possible for old behaviour to continue so it's only seen when you do a clean install [there have been other reported examples of this].
    - I have a USB optical drive and, when I connect it, it is shown as in your first diagram i.e. not in a separate group. I have not done a clean install since 2016.

I suggest that you start a new thread that
    - includes a title that states your your interest is in a separate group for Devices with removeable storage,
    - includes both your old & new diagrams
    - includes a link back to this thread W10 file explorer layout missing grouping divider - TenForums
and then post a link to your new thread here along with a request for all future replies to be made to that.

I had a look through WinAero but could not find anything there that affects your situation.

    Best of luck,
    Denis
