Can't move or copy a file from my desktop to a folder

    19045.2604

I have a sub-folder in my Google Drive with ~1600 pdf files in it. When I drag and drop the file (also a pdf file) on the folder I get an error:

I can move or copy the file to another folder with no problem. I can even move it to a sub-folder in that sub-folder and I can move/copy other files into that sub-folder.

A 'file not found' error like that can sometimes be due to Controlled Folder Access (aka Ransomware Protection) blocking access. Check in Windows Security for 'recently blocked apps' and see if anything relevant is being blocked.

when an app is blocked, it will appear in a recently blocked apps list. Click/tap on the plus Add an allowed app button and choose Recently blocked apps. Select any of the apps to add them to the allowed list.
Add or Remove Allowed Apps for Controlled Folder Access in Windows 10

As this is only happening for one particular folder, anther possibility is that you have added it as a protected folder. If so, you could try removing it from the protected list.

You have most likely reached the size limit of the Desktop folder in your Google Drive. As stated, you can create a new Sub Folder in the Desktop folder to add your files too.

    Controlled folder Access is off.

That one file is the only file that won't copy or move to that sub-folder.

Before trying to move the file, rename it to a different name. like 36987.pdf or whatever. If that fails, the file may be corrupted.

So I renamed it to pig.pdf, moved it to the folder with no problem. Attempted to rename it to 36986.pdf and got this error:

Can't move or copy a file from my desktop to a folder-pig.png

That folder really has it for for that name.

For whatever reason, Windows doesn't like the original name. If you insist on the old name, try renaming to 36986.1.pdf or 36986(1).pdf or any other variations.

I really don't care, it's just a strange anomaly that I thought I'd put out there to see if it's common or special to my 7 year old laptop. I actually got that file out of the same folder, printed it and tried to put it back, when it didn't work I downloaded it again from Play KenKen Math Puzzles - Free Math Games & Logic Puzzles! and it still wouldn't save.

This may be a protected file that this sight put on their files to keep you from downloading and only want you to view it online. Contact the site administrator.
