Problem with old Lumia 540

Hi,

I have a Lumia 540 DS running 8.1, which will no longer start up completely. It just shows a black screen. Pressing the arrow key turns the screen blue, nothing else is accessible. Multiple soft resets have not helped.
Recovery tool will wipe data (SMS, phone records), and the old desktop app does not revognize the phone.
The phone does connect to USB, and I can access images, but no phone/SMS data.

Any ideas?

Typical useless forum "advice", I guess. I use/d it only as a phone (you know, these things that let you talk to people across a distance...) and for SMS. I would just like to have access to some phone numbers and SMS again.

Perhaps you can keep that kind of nonsense to yourself?

Hard reset will wipe all data, which is what I'm trying to avoid. Soft reset doesn't work.

The only way to keep your data when doing a factory reset is to back it up and restore it when the reset is complete. Google's built-in backup feature is the easiest way to back up your data.

Open Settings.
Select "Google."
Select "Backup." If you have backed up your phone before, you will see a list of what's backed up. If everything is backed up or if this is the first time you're backing up to Google, proceed to the next step. If you don't see everything being backed up, open the Google One app and select "Storage." Then select "View details." Now you can select "Manage backup" to select the data you want backed up.
Select "Back up now." If this is your first backup, you will be able to select what you want backed up.
Note that it can take up to 24 hours to back up your data for the first time. When your data is saved, you'll see "On" below all of the data types you selected for backup.

3. Wait for the syncing process to complete. You should see a message ‘Last synced on…’ Your contacts are now synced with Gmail.
4. Log into Gmail and make sure everything is there.

6. Navigate to Settings, Accounts and then Google.
7. Toggle the switch next to Contacts to on.
8. Wait for the sync process to complete.
9. Navigate to Contacts on the device and make sure everything is present and correct.

This is a Windows phone. And I have no access to it, I can not run any backup.
