    Problems with File Explorer View

    19045.2486

I have 3 folders on my desktop that for the past 7 years have, when opened, always opened with the view set to Large Icons except for the past several weeks, I don't think it happened when I was updated to 2486. Now after a reboot when I open either of these folders they open with the view set at Details unless I change the view to Large Icons, even then after a reboot they revert back to Details.

I happened to experience same problem my self some days ago, but after updating K-Lite Codec Pack the problem was fixed....
Just be sure that all boxes are checked on if and when you install it.

    Download K-Lite Codec Pack

Change the foldername by adding an extra letter, removing a letter, add an extra space somewhere in there. The new foldername should have no problem.

The current foldernames' View Settings have become corrupt in the Registry somewhere. It will be impossible to pinpoint the exact Registry key that refers to the folders. Instead, you can remove ALL the view settings of every single folder from your computer, yet I don't think that's something that you'd prefer to do.

It was a good idea, but it didn't work.

    I'll give @NTN suggestion a try.

Seems like this wasn't your problem but for anyone else who has similar problems this might be an alternative explanation:

There is a limit to the number of views that File Explorer will memorise - 5000 I think by default. If you've reached that limit then that might explain why changes don't stick. More info here: How to Increase Folder View Settings Cache Memory Size in Windows.

Thanks strubbly1, the more info URL allowed me to see how many memorized folder views are being used, yep 5000 was it, I changed it to 20000 and if everything is fine I won't report back.

I tried WinSetView before my original post, seems to only work with original File Explorer folders, not with "made up" folder names.
