Event viewer doesn't open in control panel

Recently, after a CHKDSK during boot up on my C drive, event viewer doesn't open in control panel. I can open it this way"

    command prompt admin
    compmgmt.msc

I ran sfc /scannow successfully. Any ideas on what I should try?

    In CMD(adm)

    1.DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    then
    2. sfc /scannow

    Gerry,

    compmgmt.msc
That cmd is for Computer management which is in the Control panel, Administrative tools section [as is Event viewer - eventvwr.msc].

    All the best,

This is the error message when I try to open Event Viewer from Control panel

    mmc.exe - Application Unable to Start (0xc0000102)

Same error when I use the start button and type event viewer

Yet I can open it using this:
    command prompt admin
    compmgmt.msc

I get the same error message when trying to open Computer Management from Control panel, like several have posted above

And thank you for your reply.

    a. check your disk with e.g. Crystal Diskinfo.
    b. Try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data

    Hello @GerryPeters,

    Using Windows Key + R:

    compmgmt.msc opens . . .

Event viewer doesn't open in control panel-image.png

    eventvwr.msc opens . . .

    I tried In CMD(adm)

    1.DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
    It passed
Same error on opening Disk Management or Event viewer

The only way I can get to Disk Management or Event viewer is using the Command Prompt admin

Crystal Diskinfo says "Good" for the HD
