    Start Menu indexing

    Hi!
The Start Menu on a fresh install of Windows 10 does not list up essential things, like "Device Manager", "Windows Update", "Disk Manager", and so on. So far I used to open these apps by start typing it in the Start Menu, and when showed up just hit Enter to open them, but it is not working.
I tried to rebuild the indexing of the Start Menu by this forum without luck.
Has anybody idea, what can cause this?

Have you looked at or searched the huge Tutorials section here?
    E.g.
Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10
Turn On or Off Enhanced Mode for Search Indexer in Windows 10
How to Reset Windows Search in Windows 10

    - given that this is a clean install (let's check that in a minute) you shouldn't need to use the above...

Now, how did you do your clean install?

    Did you
    - create a bootable Win 10 medium?
    - boot your PC from that?
    - delete wll existing Win 10 partitions as part of the procedure (4 if UEFI usually, perhaps more..)?

And when you booted into your newly installed Win 10, you should have found no 3rd party programs were installed.

This is a necessary reality check- please advise. Thanks.

Windows Update is now in Settings, Disk Manager and Device Manager should be under Administrative tools. What is the Control Panel?

    1) Here is a snapshot of the start menu when searching for device manager:

I have to admit that specially didn't look through that forum, but on other channels what google listed I spent some hours solving this problem. Thanks for the links.
    - I already tried to switch to enhanced search, but it didn't help me.
    - I tried to rebuild the search index list, but I feel that it found not enough results.
    - I tried the troubleshooting: control panel - troubleshooting - view all - search and indexing auto scan. That listed that the searchUi.exe was not started. The troubleshooter fixed that by starting it again, but when I ran the test again, it said the same thing again -- and applied the same fix.

Regarding the installation, I did it as I used to, after formatting the whole SSD and used a bootable flash drive created by Mediacreation tool.

I checked another notebook settings, so I included the Windows 10 folder into the indexing list. It listed more elements, but the screenshot from the "Device manager" settings is still looks the same.

Given the minimal number of items indexed, that's very odd.

There are specific areas which need to be indexed for the search to work as you want.

    Try Option 3:
Rebuild Search Index in Windows 10

I gave the batch file a try. The rebuild itself found more items into the list, but did not solve the issue.

Again, thank you for your reply.

Try this. Open Indexing Options. Note the number of items indexed.

With that open, open file explorer here:
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Now add one more shortcut there for test purposes.
Check the number of items indexed increments.

Delete the added shortcut, and advise the outcome with screenshots.

Thank you for the help. I dug deeper in the regedit, and I came out with the idea, that this can be a side effect of changing my username to another some week ago. I finally decided to reinstall the Windows, since it is a much easier effort at this time. Now it is working.

Good to see that it's working.

This is what my Indexing Options looks like. I have it set to index almost every file in the C: drive, and every file in the other drives. You can change the settings by pressing the Modify button

Ah.. you said this was a clean install... and I asked what changes had been made.

As for changing your user name- this is how to do that - properly- - from the searchable Tutorials section here:
Change User Name of Account in Windows 10

You will see that how you do that depends on what sort of account you have.
