What I'm trying to get is the original-size uncompressed install.wim. So the sum of all its contents, packed into the WIM, without any added compression optimization. Problem I'm having is that all download options available result in a compressed wim and "extracting" it with DISM results in an 8GB+ wim which is apparently excessive of even the default size.
what do you mean by "the default size" ?

Windows ISO available for download from Microsoft contains a 4.8GB install.wim
    that one has lzx compression.

You did not follow my post earlier. The default .wim is compressed. Obviously if you convert .esd to .wim and specify no compression, the resulting .wim will be bigger than the default.wim.

I do not see what you are trying to do.

Why would you want an uncompressed .wim - it just takes more space. The .wim functionality does not change.

That's my quandary as well. If we had a clear understanding of what the end goal is, we could perhaps make some intelligent suggestions on how to reach that goal.
