    Repair windows installation

My friend is unable to boot his pc due to a power loss. It’s possible to get to the boot options screen by holding down shift, but although it reports as successful, the screen is black. Is there a good windows repair cd available to buy, as I can’t get there to help. Haven’t tried SFC or DISM yet
    Thanks

So you are able to boot into bios without any issues?
Booting into advanced startup mode comes to mind, if that's an option for you.
Did you try disconnecting the pc from power for a few minutes and try again, or remove cmos battery?

1 If your friend has any kind of bootable USB/CD then get them to boot from it once and then try normal booting again. Sometimes the act of booting from another device has been known to fix booting to a black screen.

2 If your friend has a Windows 10 installation USB or a Macrium boot USB then boot using it and run its Startup repair.

Several Macrium reflect users have posted that its boot disk has better startup repair capabilities than Windows installation USBs.

3 And I'd like to clarify "it reports as successful, the screen is black"
What exactly reported what as successful and how was that report communicated to the user?

    All the best,

My friend is unable to boot his pc due to a power loss.
First thing- verify integrity of the disk. Anything could potentially have been corrupted- depends what it was doing at the time.

You could create (for free) a live boot disk for your friend e.g. Hiren's, Bob Omb's - that would boot the PC to a familiar Windows environment, assuming no hardware issues.

    Your friend could then
    - check the internal disk e.g. Crystal Diskinfo is often provided with such disks
    - if necessary extract data from it
    - try recovery procedures.

I assume, of course, your friend hasn't been in the habit of using 3rd party disk imaging... and if not, you will encourage them to do so once PC is up and running again.

Yes advanced startup works, believe the recovery options were tried and reported as successful…I am not local to create a disk, wonder if I could buy something suitable if so what would be best.

No boot cd usb etc available

    Thanks

You could make a Windows 10 installation USB and post it to them.

Buy a blank one and create one yourself. I suggested two. You could then send that to your friend.

That of course is assuming your friend cannot get access to another PC and create one themselves.... with your instructions..
