    Windows time question

Hi there, all you great people. Windows time won't work for me, it won't sync, I tried so many things. So my question is, if I use third party to set the time instead, and it works, but in windows settings it says that the last sync with time was "2015 something" is there any concern that windows thinks the last sync was 2015, is there any security issue with that? Or is it enough that a third party sets my time, even if windows does not know of it? Or does it regardless of 2015 ? Thanks

Just wondering- with all the security hacks you've applied mentioned in other threads, is it possible you've broken it?

None that has ever been reported here.
I'd have noticed because I spent years using some tool or other to sync time in Windows 7 because I had the same problem as you now have. The problem just disappeared when I upgraded to Windows 10.

Hi there. If it has, then its because it is a security issue and it needs to be disabled. But i dont think so, because the comment from TRY3 is that its not an security issue. And hardeningkitty is really great thing and very thought through, nothing there breaks things unless specific setup or something they have missed and not reported yet. I highly recommend it for deep security. You can deploy it risk free in powershell just to see what it tells you. It will show you how secure your system is and what needs changing. And if you are ok for those changes you just deploy the fix and it will fix all of those.

By quoting me out of context, you have implied a different meaning to my words.

I said that there was no security issue with Windows thinking you had not time-synced since 2015.

Try3 said using a 3rd party sync source would not be a security risk, and that not having synced for a long time wouldn't be either.

Your conclusion is that Windows time sync may be a security risk.., if so, why isn't there an outcry from the millions of PC users whose systems have been compromised by using Windows sync?

What we don't know is how your system has reached the point where it doesn't work.

If I was trying to diagnose a Windows time-sync problem, I would include monitoring
    Event viewer
    Log - System
    Source - Time-Service
    [All EventIDs]

How is Windows time sync a security risk? If you are using third party utilities to take the place of Windows embedded utilities you will not see logging updates for those.

This one worked!! Only thing that worked. I copy paste the fix below.

    "

    For anybody googling:

I've had this same exact issue as described in the post and I followed every single suggestion with exactly the same results as described by the original poster, down to the letter. I've been trying to fix this issue on and off since 2019 with no success and since I wasn't willing to reinstall windows, I gave up and resorted to setting the time manually. However, I've finally found a workaround that works (for me).

NetTime works for me. I'm glad to finally have my windows clock back to an accurate & self-updating state, after 3 years.

NetTime - Network Time Synchronization Tool

Hope this helps someone else with the same problem out there, who just wants to have their time correct. The actual problem with the service isn't fixed and mine didn't solve itself like the original post, and honestly I'm not too bothered as long as my windows clock is correct.

No what i meant was that having windows time out of sync would be security risk when it comes to certificates, and break things? I was just asking and guessing :P
