I want to be able to more easily add files with same name and have windows alter name as it was in windows 7. is there any hacks for this ? cannot find one.

Copy But Keep Both Files Option Missing in Windows 10
Good explained here.
You can also download TeraCopy for Windows - Code Sector When this is enabled, it gives you the option to copy keeping both copies, or to rename it, or overwrite it. Also, if the copy fails from computer restart or other issue, Teracopy will pick up where it left off so you don't have to start over
