    oh man...
I bring up wordPad/write in some stuff....clicking 'save' or 'save as' brings the 'save as' window, which says "This PC Documents (not the same window as callender #10)

for 'file name', I dont name it, I leave it as it says, just 'document'
for 'save as type', I leave as it says, the RTF
the box is checked where it says "save in this format by default"
    click "save", window disappears

I bring up file explorer, click on documents, I see the one I just did, says 'document' (I didnt name it). I see the big W in it, for Word. I dbl clk it, up comes "sign in to get started with microsoft office".
I click on 'skip',,...box says 'are you sure?'....I click 'x' to close it.......it goes back to the "sign in to get started with microsoft office" window. click on 'skip'.....brings up "get started with microsoft 365".....click 'x' to close it, then a second time, then it goes away, and Im back at the file explorer window.
Right click the file. Choose "Open With" then choose WordPad. Or else merge the reg file linked in Post #17.

Here it is anyway if you can't find it.

    https://www.tenforums.com/attachment...s-10-a-rtf.reg

Then .rft files will always open with Docpad and you won't have the problem.

If someone wants to explain basic navigation in file explorer please have a try. I attempted it in another thread and even made a video showing where to point and click but it was not understood by @ImLost.

Confirm that you are actually using Wordpad and not some other program please.

In the search box type wordpad. You should see this:

    Is that what you see?

So merge the reg file that I linked then save a test document in WordPad. Give it a name. Make sure you choose save as RTF format. Save to desktop folder. You navigate to the desired folder from the window you see that opens when choosing where to save.

Once saved (with the reg file merged) it should open with Wordpad by default when clicked.

I'm really not going to explain how to choose where to save a file. I tried before and failed. Could someone else maybe try explaining that?

Make sure that the tab at the top named "Apps" is selected when searching.
