Linux is a great OS. It is fast, safe and free.
It is just different, not only on the way it looks but mainly on how it works.
And for Linux there are more than one free Office alternative. And you will find a free Linux alternative for almost every Windows application. Not so elaborated or sophisticated, but for general public, it works.
Have seen many high skilled Windows gurus that left windows for Linux and don't regret.
Windows isn't the most used OS. Not any more. Android is.
Windows isn't considered the best OS. MAC OS is.

For me the best software is the one I know how to use it.
Android is a toy OS for limited devices.

In the real world, where I use pcs to earn money to live, windows is the only OS that has the complex applications that are needed.

Even MacOS does not have the range of tools Windows has.

Even if I was the world's greatest Linux expert, it is still not remotely good enough to help me do my job LOL.

I have to partially agree with your arguments

Android is a toy OS for limited devices. Totally agree. But in the last years I've seem many people giving up on their laptops and use only smart phones.

Partially agree. On business administration offices I never seen an application that couldn't be done under Linux.
On engineer offices some applications, like CAD or PLC programmers, has to be done on Windows
Even MacOS does not have the range of tools Windows has.Totally agree. But 90% of business tasks can be done under a MAC OS.

On my post I wasn't referring to business computers but home computers where most users use a spreadsheet, a writer and mostly for navigate on the internet.

Linux Mint is one of the best Distros for an alternative to Windows.

A fake Rolex may look like a real Rolex but it is only a superficial resemblance.

It is what is under the hood that counts. In the end, it is just another boring Linux distro with all the major disadvantages of inability to run major packages like MS Office.

Remember the fiasco when a German Federal state decided to boycott Windows in its public governing body, and after a few months reverted back to Windows after admitting it just did not work.

So, for anybody going down this route, enjoy your fake black velvet drink with a stout and sparkling wine. I will continue to enjoy a genuine black velvet using guinness and real champagne.
I wish you hadn't mentioned black velvet m8. I had a session on it last night with a couple of bad lads and am suffering something fierce. Yep, had the good stuff, Guinness and Champers but oh boy.....my head's full of exploding rocks today

I’ve dabbled into the Linux realm and always return to Win - mostly because I haven’t found a good replacement for Outlook

@Try3 I'd wonder if that would also apply to the 64-bit Pro version of WinXP. A have a Toshiba Notebook I could use to try but it won't accept the Dell-branded disc I have, doesn't match.
I think we might be at cross-purposes.
The computers concerned had been upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 10.
They subsequently updated all the way through to Version 1709 successfully.
They failed, as the OP's has, at Version 1803 onwards.
