    missing icons / thumbnails

I would like to try and repair my windows 10 installation that no longer displays thumbnails for certain file types like png images. It seems like this is usually due to a file association issue. This seems to be evident in the 'open with' context menu and the icons for system apps appear blank. Blank icons for system apps such as calculator, snip&sketch, photos also appear on the taskbar. Is this something that I can repair or is it worth doing a fresh install. I have not made any system restore points and am running Win10 ver 22H2 build 19045.2486.

    Hi,
no longer displays thumbnails for certain file types like png images.
What changed around the time this started?

What are your zip files associated with? (Unfamiliar icon...) Winrar perhaps?

Considering all your UWP apps (Store apps) have corrupt/wrong icons, see e.g.

As a separate consideration, should you wish to reset file type associations to default, see:
Restore Default File Type Associations in Windows 10
from the huge searchable Tutorials section.

How do you protect yourself from many problems and give yourself a chance to restore your PC to a previously good state- even if your disk fails?

    a. Routinely and periodically use 3rd party disk imaging (endlessly recommended here) e.g. Macrium Reflect (free or licensed).
    b. As you know, System Restore points. There's a tutorial on having these created on a schedule.

These two (they are very different) complement each other usefully.
