    Thumbnails missing in specific folders

    here is a strange one.

I am a web developer and that entails images for web site.

For some reason all the folders for web site images show only a generic thumbnail for the associated app not the image thumb. In other folders on PC the correct thumb shows. If I move a copy of said image to another folder the thumb shows but if I move any image into the folder with the web images thumbs vanish.

This is very annoying as I have to use preview to see what those images are unless I copy to another location.

I have tried every folder and thumbnail view setting I can find but certain folders with images for web sites refuse to display image thumbs.

Press "File"--->"Change folder and search options"-->And then uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" under View.

As I stated in post I have tried every known setting with nothing solving the problem.

I think you're supposed to actually read the article.. when I did I saw
Methods to fix image thumbnails not showing

    1 Change File Explorer settings
2 Restore File Explorer options to default
3 Change Visual Effect Settings in Windows 10
4 Use Disk Cleanup to delete thumbnail cache
5 Use Command Prompt to remove thumbnail cache
    6 Run SFC scan
    7 Run the DISM Tool
    etc

Whether you see a thumbnail or image can also depend on the size at which they are shown and the view in that folder.

You've not shown a screenshot.. that might help someone help you.

    For interest

I have not only done all of that I actually upgraded from W7 to W10 22H2 and the same problem remains.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that these images were downloaded from my Linux web server to the folders in question and unzipped.

If I move them to another folder the thumbs appear. Often I I move the same back to the folder in question they then have thumbs appearing.

There are many hundreds so that is not a workable option to get them to return.

As for screen shot all you would see is a generic GIMP icon with and x on it.

    - to show the folder view... rather than how an individual one appears- remember, we can't see your screen.
Also you mention an 'x' - so I'm not sure what that signifies.

I think Win 7 and 10 just adds that to icon for a default program when no thumbnail is provided.

All thumbs have that X in any folder downloaded from web server as shown.\
