Hibernation file too big? Reduce size of hiberfil.sys in Windows 11/10
Long time ago I turned off hibernation and deleted the big hibernation file. I never had the feeling that I missed something.
It's not necessary if you don't use hibernation or Fast Startup. F Startup is only of significant benefit with HDDs and can cause problems in some cases.
I had a cool little script that I set up for my computer a while ago that
1) When I put my computer into Hibernate, the hiberfil.sys gets created as the computer is getting ready to Hibernate, and once I turn on the computer
2) It comes back from Hibernate, and once it comes back, the computer deletes the hiberfil.sys file.
YET over time, I learned more about SSDs, and figured that it's not a good idea to keep doing this "method" of creating & clearing up 10 GB of space from my SSD for every Hibernation instance. On a way more technical note, the SSD should be fine even if I go back to using that method.
BUT what my suggestion is that we can make a little script to run every time your computer starts up which Disables Hibernate (which would delete the hiberfil.sys) using Task Scheduler. Assuming that Hibernate is already disabled, then that little script just won't apply when you start the computer...
Here's my old notes for it...
(Keep note, I used a program that converted the cmd file into an exe file to work with Task Scheduler.
I used this to convert CMD to EXE (program name is "BAT", but it also supports CMD)
and... the rest of the notes...
-------------------------------------------------
But I noticed that having that extra 10 GB just sitting there doesn't bother me that much. It used to in the past, but I got used to it. So that file is always there, and I can Hibernate the computer whenever I want.

Have you sorted out the problem with Hiberfil.sys size difference between explorer and storage sense
If so could you please let me know how as I have the exact same problem
Thanks
hello, after all this time this still persists, just noticed while deleting hibernation and putting it back on.

Something interesting, when hibernation is off (powerfg -hibernate off) then if you go to storage sense, it STILL says
Hibernation File
6.28 GB
then when you actually turn it on with powercfg -hibernate ON then it adds up the other 6gb something and then it reports 15.2 GB
