Sorry to bump an old post but it was the first up on my google search. Disabled AVG context menu element in my registry (raw win10 pro install), solved the same issue of explorer.exe crashing on right-click, which included slow degradation of my start menu as well. Follow http://www.thewindowsclub.com/remove...-items-editors, and be sure to back up your reg or at least know what you're doing.

This happens to me a few days ago :/
The 'explorer.exe' will not open, and the context menu (right click) doesn't work.
I disabled the AVG related items in ShellExView, i hope it will help.

    Hi Guys,

Came here before I threw myself from the top window (relax i live in a bungalow) anyway i have the same right click on any file freezing the computer i have to left click to close the window and start again ... read a few forum pieces and uninstalled Macafee which came with adobe update and hey presto it worked ... that was 7 hours ago ... same problem back uninstalled the only other unused programme i have and its still letting the blue wheel turn forever until i close out using left click.

Keep the answers simple guys my user name is a big clue!
