Pasting a file into a folder set for Views > List

The vast majority of the time when I paste a file into a folder that has a multitude of files, and the folder is set for Views > List, I am immediately navigated to the end of the file list, instead of to the actual list location of the given file, after which I must search for the file. But every once in a while, very infrequently, in that same folder, after pasting, I am taken directly to that file's precise location.

However, given the same scenario, but the folder is set to Views > Details, after pasting, I'm steered right to the given file location.

Somehow, in the case of Views > List, they had two choices, and purposely opted for inconvenience, IMO

Is there any way to gain control of this behavior?

I've had my "Documents" folder set to "General Items" for a long time", but for some reason unknown to me "Also apply the template to all sub folders" sometimes becomes unchecked.

I didn't realize, among other things, that it would address my particular issue.

Anyway, I just checked it



I'm now testing it, and, with just a couple exceptions, seems to have done the trick.

Done. Odd, but directly after I did the change, I move a sub folder file to that main folder, and it didn't work. I then moved another file from that same folder, and it worked. I then did the same with several other files from the same source with success, and went back to move the original file again, and now it worked as expected, unlike before.

In the Libraries > Documents properties, it says "Size of files in Library: calculating..." Hasn't stopped calculating. Maybe there's a system learning curve?

But please excuse my dumb speculation. Whatever the case may be, I don't care. I certainly can live just fine with that minor issue. if or when it comes up.

Calculating size of files? It might be that you have a whole lot of different file types and maybe some videos in the paths listed under your documents library (the included locations).

Explorer might be tripping up on a file or thumbnail that it can't read. That's just a guess.

I have set every single folder in my computer to be viewed as General Items, unless I set a custom theme for specific folders. I used the link stated above to achieve that:

Also I make a backup of every single folder, so if one folder changes to some random view setting, I restore my saved folder settings:

Every time I set a custom view to any one folder:
1) I reload the backup (because it is possible that some folder you barely access may have changed its view settings).
2) Set the custom view to the folder that I want.
3) Create a backup for the view settings for all the folders.

(4) Repeat steps 1 to 3 every time I want to change the view settings to any one folder.


I believe the same process can be used for other view settings.

Still calculating: Some file or thumbnail corruption in one or more of your files I reckon. For me library size is displayed instantly.
