When I press and hold power button

Hi. When I start my pc and then regret starting it so before it post and show bios i press and hold powerbutton (it takes about 2 sec) then it shuts down but is in hibernate or sleep, because i can see ethernet is on and my graphic card has power to it and the leds are on the motherboard, this indicates its in some kind of hibernate or sleep mode. I have disabled sleep/hibernate in windows so when i shut down from start menu it shuts down properly. So my question is, how do i force my pc to shut down properly when i hold the power button down?

Hold the power button for 15 seconds or so. When you press the power button for a second or two, it will go into Sleep Mode. Hold it longer and it will shut off.
Boot into Windows go to Search and type power options and press enter and change what the power button does and change it to Shut Down. How to customize power button action when pressed on Windows 10 | Windows Central

I find pressing the power button before the Windows logo comes on usually shuts down or reboots right away. Once that image appears it changes to having to hold the button down for 6 seconds or a bit longer.

Some lights on my Desktop Computer stay on, even after I shut it down.

Keep note that with most modern Desktops, there is always power going to them, even if they are completely off.

One thing you can try to learn more about your hardware is to pull the power plug from the computer for about 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Don't press the Power Button or anything. Wait another 10 seconds or something (...11 seconds), (make sure the computer isn't starting up or anything) and look at all the hardware aspects: see which lights turn on.
If any lights turn on, this implies that these lights will always be on, no matter if you Shut Down the computer / put it to Sleep / Hibernate / etc.

Turning off the computer: While the system is ON, press the power button for less than four seconds to put the system on sleep mode or soft-off mode, depending on the BIOS setting. Press the power switch for more than four seconds to let the system enter the soft-off mode regardless of the BIOS setting.

Power options: choose what the power butons do

When I press the power button: (do nothing, sleep, hibernate, shut down, turn off display)
When I press the sleep button: (do nothing, sleep, hibernate, turn off display)
When I close the lid (laptop): (do nothing, sleep, hibernate, shut down)

    Definitions:

Mechanical Off is as close as your PC will get to being completely at rest, with only the battery-powered internal clock still running. To achieve this, unplug your PC at the wall.

Soft Off is what the regular shut down function gives you – just a few low power circuits checking the power button and, if they are enabled, other inputs such as the keyboard, network connection or USB ports.

Hibernation mode can be described as a compromise between the shut down and sleep modes. It memorises the applications and windows currently open on your desktop, before shutting down your computer. When you restart the machine, you should find all applications as you last saw them, ready to continue using, and the restart can take less than a minute in some cases.

Sleep is a medium-low power standby state that does not actually switch your machine off. Instead, open documents and applications are stored in the computer’s RAM memory and your system can be ‘woken up’ ready to use again in just a few seconds. However, it is worth remembering that, unlike the hibernation function, sleep does continue to slowly drain your battery. So if you’re using it on a laptop with low power, this mode could eventually result in your laptop shutting itself down.

All of the above is true... especially the "4 seconds" part.

Something to remember. There are a bunch of capacitors on the motherboard.
These will hold power for a long time. This is why "some" lights, etc., stay on.

IF you turn off the switch on the power supply, and THEN hold down the power button on the case for approx. 5-10 secs., it will discharge all the capacitors. Then the computer will be completely OFF.

In order for that to work, you must leave the power supply... plugged into the wall, but switched off.
It needs the ground from the wall to discharge the capacitors.

is there a way to unplug the power and then take out the battery without bios loosing all my OC settings that i saved? Is there a way for me to backup the OC saves? I mean i know the settings will be reset to default in bios but i mean my saved settings, how can i back those up, i know those saves will also be gone on a battery removal.

I have an old motherboard. With my motherboard, I can save 3 different profiles onto the motherboard, without them getting erased if I remove the battery. Also, I can save the settings on an external device, such as a USB device.

I am very sure that your motherboard has those features, and probably more advanced.

Search online for your motherboard’s name and: save profile settings

I’m sure you can find many tutorials, even with pictures, that show you how to do so.

…I can also look; gimme a few minutes

Edit: As a matter of fact, I noticed that there are real good professionals about ASUS motherboards on ASUS' forums. If you ask them on their forums, they can give you a lot of more useful information since they are experts at the motherboards:

The CMOS battery is used to power memory for the BIOS settings. As long it is maintaining enough power it will continue to do so. Of course if you update your BIOS then these settings are reset. That means you should document your setting changes so you can set those again after a BIOS update.

It is nice if you can save multiple profiles but I wonder if the profile is always valid after a big BIOS update. Maybe someone here can answer that question.
