Should I restart my machine every day?

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well.

Is an everyday restart going to damage either software-windows 10- or hardware? It seems the only solution to windows defender scheduled quick scan problem 0x2; hence, I'm posting the question.

    Many thanks in advance.

Check out the Event Viewer. See if you can find anything about this error in there.

I shut down and turn off my PC every day when not in use since any appliance left on is a fire risk. I've never had any software problems doing so nor would expect any.

Thank you. I'm familiar with almost every old and new thread on google results about defender's infamous problem and obviously Microsoft won't release a new update to get it fixed. Windows11 defender has the same issue as well and this is the latest post I've found, tried both shutting down and restarting, shut down the machine won't get defender back on track while restart does the trick for now.

Thank you, but shut down is different from restart, technically not the same thing right? I never keep my machine on whatsoever.

    No.

I Reboot once a week, usually on a Friday after I have run my computer cleanup Script.

    I hope this helps.

Hi. The best solution to the Windows Defender scheduled scan issue is to create your own task. I never had a failed daily scan in years after creating my own task.

My thought? Modern computers always have power going to the motherboard unless the power cord and/or battery are physically removed from them. I equate the power to be similar to a light bulb, the shock of electricity on a cold device can have an effect but it may take awhile. I have light bulbs that are turned on only once every day that have lasted over 20 years.
