Planning to move from Windows 10 to Windows 11

    Hey guys,

I am planning to move to Windows 11. I have Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FC where Windows 10 Pro came default with genuine license key. Will that key work on Windows 11 Pro installation time ?

Moreover, my main question is any good software that can hide/block telemetry of Windows 11 ?

    Regards.

With respect, that should most certainly not be your main question. Nor is it a useful one IMHO.
And if you wish to explore that, well a search engine such as Google will help.

I have Lenovo X1 Carbon 20FC where Windows 10 came default but I am not using genuine key.
    Thank you for stating that.

If your PC has been previously and genuinely activated when running Win 10, your PC has digital activation rights stored on MS's activation server.

Thus any clean Windows installation should automatically be activated in accordance with that- including Win 11.

Note: no support can be given to users without a genuine license

If you have a genuine product key stored in firmware, why are you using not using a genuine key?

There is no difference between Windows 10 and Windows 11 in keys, activation, or digital licences. They are all valid for Windows 10/11.

My experience in Upgrading to Win11? Got a new Notebook in Oct. with WIn10 Pro and free license for Win11, same for a new Desktop in April, after full updating got Win11. Was given an HP Desktop that originally came with Win10 Home in '19 that died when trying to Upgrade to Win11, cleaned it up, installed Win10 then got it Upgraded to Win11 Home. As to the Notebook, in Aug. the sound adapter on the motherboard failed, gave message of no adapter/device found, motherboard replaced under warranty, as expected the drive was restored to factory with Win10 then I again Upgraded to Win11, working good. In all this never had to enter a Product Key.

Be aware: I've heard a bunch of people have so many problems with Windows 11. I am not moving to Windows 11 any time soon.
General rule about things in life: Anything that is brand new has issues, problems, instabilities, etc. I must wait a few years until I install Windows 11, after all the bugs, issues, instabilities, get fixed.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s, things were much more stable and reliable when released. But nowadays, not to sound rude, but Gen Z is a group of.. well, not so educated people. Gen Z's releases are much less reliable than how the design of things used to be back then.
Me? I'm 37; I studied Mathematics in college, and apply mathematical concepts in my current every day life, including posting in this forum with answers that are based on mathematics, rather than my memory of how to fix things.

So my suggestion is to wait a few years before the upgrade, because... there is no rush to upgrade to Windows 11. It may be cool to have the latest technology... but... nobody around you would really care so much.

I agree with @pepanee and others about waiting if running Win10, have until Oct. 14, 2025 when it reaches EOL/End of Life [support]. I had no pressing for personally getting Win11 except the possibility of clients doing it and need more knowledge of the differences between Win10 and Win11. Right-now the Oct. Notebook and April Desktop are doing fine and running most of the Win10 programs, even some older ones such as MahJong 2006, Lotus SmartSuite 9.8, WordPerfect 12, even Microsoft Works 9.x [last published].

Be aware that some of us have been running Windows 11 on our main machines for almost a year now without issues.

I have been running the original release of Windows 11 21H2 on my two main machines for almost a year, since October 2021. Both are fully supported devices, one is for general use and has all my files and documents, the other runs all my Hyper-V virtual machines, 10 of them at last count.

In fact, if you count my pre-lauch testing with the Insider release, I've been happily running Windows 11 since the end of July 2021.

...my plan, hatched when the leak appeared, was to image the old machine, restore the image to new hardware, then upgrade that to W11. When W11 was officially available to Insiders in the Beta channel I got a 22000.51 ISO through UUPDump and tested the plan. That's my System One below, I've been using it as my main machine for two months now.

With the release due in a few days it was time to wipe the test run from the machine. I have carefully repeated the migration of the W10 OS from my old machine, and now await Windows 11 to be offered to me through Windows Update. I find it quite amusing for this machine to be able to claim an upgrade lineage that spans more than a decade

With the Feature Update to Windows 11 22H2 said to be scheduled for release in a couple of days then it could well be said to be mature and stable by now. And yes, I have been testing 22H2 on several of my machines for the past few month and find it to be an improvement on 21H2.

I do not recommend an upgrade to 11 for unsupported devices, I have several machines that will stay on 10 to the end of support, not least of which is my former main machine, System One below. Having said that, I don't practice what I preach. I have tested dual booting 10 and 11 on some on my unsupported machines and all run 11 well. One of them is so ridiculously below spec that it's amazing that it can even run 10!

Could you please explain your statement in your first post. Thanks.
