    Recurring Windows Script Host Error

On startup and every few minutes after that, this error dialog pops up. I'm about to toss my computer out the window.

I've scoured the Internet for an answer, read and tried almost a dozen "solutions" to no avail.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this?

    Hi,

    Download Autoruns from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sys...loads/autoruns.

Verify if there is an entry with "Windows11Installationassistant\.vbs"

Note that there is an error in this command (\.vbs) and that it is why the file is not found.

Search in Task Scheduler to find an entry that would launch this same command.

Check in C:\Users\ron\Appdata\Roaming\ for the presence of the said .vbs file open it in a text editor to see what it is trying to do.

Thanks for jumping in, MaloK. Unfortunately, these are among the many things I've already tried.

One other tidbit I forgot to mention... According to the PC Health utility, this machine can't be upgraded to W11. The CPU is too old. (ASUS G751Y laptop).

If you cannot find from where the command is issued. It will be difficult to remove because it has a syntax error in it.

In the case the command would be good you could have created or replaced the content of Windows11Installationassistant.vbs located where it is trying to launch by:

    Code:
    Wscript.Quit
That would have bypassed the problem.

Browse to C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming. If there is a Windows 11 folder, Delete it.
Or go to Search and type Regedit and press Enter. Select Computer. Backup the Registry
Go to the toolbar and click Edit/Find in the Find What box type in Windows11Installationassistant\.vbs. Press Find Next The search will stop on a file, press DEL key, Press Enter to confirm deletion, press F3 to continue searching the registry. Do these last 3 steps over and over until you see the message Finished Searching the Registry. Close the Editor and restart the computer.

My father had a similar error like this. The solution was definitely finding this item in Autoruns.
The trick about it is that is was not findable through the Search function of that app; I had to find it manually. It took some time.
It was an entry that wanted to open the location of a missing file. So you're going to need to look through all the items there manually, and find the command that wants to open that location.

Hope you find it; good luck.

There was no Windows 11 folder in Roaming and searching the registry didn't turn up any entries for Windows11Installationassistant or variations thereof.

    But thanks for the suggestions.

I'm assuming you searched for part or all of "windows11installationassistant." Assuming I find something, do I just delete it?

Just report what you find first.

It does look like this is the one. When highlighted, the info appearing below does match the error (windows11installationassistant\.vbs)

Sorry to jump in but in that case don't delete it. Just disable it.

    SEE:
    Autoruns?

To disable an auto-start entry uncheck its check box. To delete an auto-start configuration entry use the Delete menu item or toolbar button.
