Unable to delete an empty icon from desktop (copied and pasted

Hi. I came across a very annoying problem. In the rush of multitasking I copied a folder that was being deleted at the time and pasted it onto my Desktop. Now I have an empty folder icon on my desktop with no name and I can't do anything with it.

None of the options in the context menu work, pressing Delete doesn't work either. When I list contents of my desktop in CMD using DIR command it doesn't display any directories either, as if the folder wasn't there at all.

Please can you help me remove it?

Try running sfc /scannow command as Admin, follow this tutorial:SFC Command - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I had a similar problem once too in Win8.1, I'm not quite sure how I got rid of it, I think rebooting and when the desktop appeared I immediately tried deleting it. Or.. CCleaner the option to delete dead desktop shortcuts... It's been a while so I'm not sure.

Thanks for a speedy reply! Running now in /verify only mode as a test and I'll do /scannow tonight.

I'll report back in case anyone else comes across the same problem.

    Thanks

Thanks for that too, I'll try it out!
