I don’t know if it’s a virus, but suddenly everything lags

    Hi guys,
I am not sure what is happening, but something is terribly wrong. Yesterday night we were streaming a TV series, and all of a sudden the video started lagging. As I tried to just press stop on the video player, I noticed that anything I would try to click on implied a huge delay. So I shut down Chrome, deleted cookies, history etc.. but just trying to go on google.com made my computer think for couple of unusual seconds.
I have Avast and the scan did not reveal anything. I also checked the drive, updated windows, reboot several times and even uninstalled and reinstalled the graphic card using the device manager, nothing showed any improvement.
It’s like all of a sudden I have a computer from the 90s! I loved the 90s, but just not the computer speed that goes with it!
I am not sure where to look now. Is it an issue with the graphic card, a virus, a driver issue, I have no idea.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Kim

    Hi, welcome to tenforums.

The forum asked (so we don't have to):
    -win-10-version.png

Please complete details of your PC. Click My Computers below my post for an example.
There are tutorials available to help you do this... in the huge searchable Tutorial section.
    About how old is it?

Please do the following basic checks:
    a. check your disk(s) - get a copy of Hard Disk Sentinel (portable version available). Run that. green is good.
    b. If ok, from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    - result on the GUI.
    c. If ok, similarly run
    SFC /SCANNOW

Please check yor Update History. Post a screenshot of most recent events - thus:
    -screenshot-.png

How much free space do you have on C: ?

Now boot and log in as normal. Wait about 3 minutes, launch no additional programs.
Capture and post a screenshot of your task manager, organising columns as appropriate high to low.

Repeat that when the lag is noticeable.

Now boot to Safe Mode. Do you notice any delays?

If not, create a new user for test purposes. Log in normally as that user.
    Any lag/delay?

Do you have a 3rd party disk image created recently? (The routine and regular use of disk imaging is endlessly recommended here so you can revert to a previous good state- even if your imaged disk fails.

The problem also persists when not playing vids ? Have you tried another browser ? And also troubleshoot your internet connection.

Thanks guys for all your input. For some reason things have magically gone back the way they were. No more lagging! I’m glad the issue is fixed. If it happens again, I’ll come back and do what was mentionned in the initial post.
    Thanks all!
