windows 10 find and replace tags

    Hello

I am using lightroom and saved metadata of a TAG to a lot of files, but need to change this TAG, i deleted the keyword in LR so cant see how to do this now, e,g,I need to search for all files that have a tag FRED and replace with FRED BLOGGS

    thanks

You'd need a special 3rd party tool to handle mass tag edits.

That's going to be a matter of research unless someone happens to be familiar with one.

    I found
    FastPhotoTagger download | SourceForge.net

    which says
    With FastPhotoTagger, you can
    - Set multiple images to have the same tags
    - Set individual images to have unique tags
    - Display all the metadata in an image
    - Compare and edit all the metadata in several images

for example... which seems to come close to what you want. But you'd have to try it...

In File Explorer, use Details view and add the Tag column. Then either sort by tag or do a search for tag:FRED. Then select all the files with the FRED tag, right-click, Properties, Details, and then edit the tags and click OK.

Hello, I thought it might be as simple as that, thanks, will try this

I just saw that I did a small typo. The search should be tags:FRED

I'm currently on mobile and tried to edit my original post and it deleted it instead. Known bug I'm sure. Anyhow, that's tags (plural), not tag (singular).

You can, of course, research this and find one that actually suits you... yourself...

Personally I have never said such a thing to an OP, I am just glad to help when I can

Did you have any success replacing the tags just using File Explorer?

Hello, I tried that, but the properties field TAGS was empty, so couldnt do it......downloaded i dont know how many programs, for various reasons nothing worked.....then i found this

windows 10 find and replace tags-prop-1.png
After searching for all JPGs, I clicked on properties then
I have never used the remove personal information, as i assumed it just went ahead and removed everything , but it doesnt, it gives a window to chose what is removed so i ticked TAGS

windows 10 find and replace tags-prop2.jpg

then off it went and removed all the tag data from 3600 JPGs....so now i can load them into lightroom and not worry about previous tags.....if LR had an option import without keywords that would have helped

That will happen if you select one or more files that have different tags. The tags of the selected files have to be identical in order to edit them all together.
