    That was it, thanks.
I can't help but wonder why that hasn't happened before on this pc. I just did a reinstall, and I would have thought it wouldn't be any different than before the reinstall. I mean I am certain that i've never had to adjust this before.
Anyway all's well that ends well, thanks again.

With all the bazillions of settings, between various programs, we all forget settings we used in the past.
Microsoft keeps changing things, as does Chrome, Firefox.... just about everyone.

It's the new system. No quality/compatibility checks before release. We are the guinea pigs.

I have an entire folder, filled with tweaks for Windows 10, and another one for Windows 11.
Then I have a Firefox (which I use), folder as well.

    /edit
I even have a topic with even more Firefox tweaks.

Firefox... taming the beast part 2 !!

Then I have even more texts with instructions I copy/paste for others.
And that's only the stuff I keep.
Then we have the Ten Forums Tutorials. There's probably over 1,000 of them.

I keep the same folders. lol, I just checked and my windows 10 folder has over 2,000 items in it.
There's 25 sub folders of various items, lots of notepad walkthroughs, lots of saved apps...

Exactly. We all do tweaks that we forget we did, at one time or another.
Or... like in this instance, MS or FF changes something that we never needed to tweak before.
In the case of those volume flyouts... I believe they appeared on the scene about a year ago.

I never had them, so I don't know if it was MS or FF that did it. I "think" it was MS, but I'm not sure.

the worst part of the flyouts is their complete lack of usefulness. i've just muted an audio file, so I certainly don't need a popup telling me I did so. now if it stayed there until I unmute it, that would be one thing. but it fades in just a few seconds. same with the gaming flyout. neither notification serves any purpose at all.

I think there's one guy with a laptop, on an island in the South Pacific, that.... likes the flyouts.

No, not any more. He gave up and went over to Linux last month ....

Microsoft has a separate department (called What-Can-We-Do-Next-To-Annoy-The-Ess-Aitch-One-Tee-Out-Of-Users), which is dedicated to thinking up these new additions. Mr Clippy has a lot to answer for .... !!!

I was chatting with some lifelong IT guys a couple of years ago, and they said the buzz was that the software engineers are being told that literally any change is good, for the sole purpose of making the next version of Windows look different.
