Another idea. Suppose you have a lot files where the list takes up the whole screen and finding empty space to click on is a bit difficult. Maybe it looks something like this:

Simply press the "End" key on your keyboard and you will be taken to the end of the list and should have free space where you can click as in the screenshot below. Note that this is the same list as in the first screenshot, all I did was press "End".

Thanks. I think this only works in some views. It will not work in [Details] view (right click>view>details).

Again, click on an empty space in that pane.

    You might find this useful:

    - so the whole row isn't selected.
Where exactly is the empty space you are clicking to unselect the selected row? I don't find any empty space to click that can unselect the selected row.

Here is an example in the following two screenshots. Note the file that is selected. As I move the mouse pointer to the right into clear space, note how the highlight of the current item disappears. I can then right-click and paste.

There is also another method I don't think anyone has mentioned:

    1) Select what you want to copy, right-click and choose copy.
    2) Click on the title bar of File Explorer, with the destination displayed in the main window, and then simply press CTRL-V to paste. No clicking or searching for free space needed.
