Explorer keeps opening by itself

For the past week or so, Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) has been opening all by itself without my having attempted to start it.

Any ideas as to why this is happening, and what I might do to prevent it?

Windows 10 is fully up-to-date.

Is there any pattern to when it runs?
Is there any pattern to the drive/folder it shows when it runs?

And are you sure it's a file explorer window, not something that looks a bit like one?
- can you post a screenshot please? (Feel free to erase file/folder names as you like).

For the past week or so,

- what changed a week ago?
Update? Upgrade? Installation? Uninstallation?
The cat walked over the keyboard...
Etc

Do you have a System Restore point created before then you could use?

Explorer always shows the "quick access" folder.

There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to when this occurs.

I haven't installed anything new in the last month, apart from the usual Windows 10 updates.

My cat delicately avoids the keyboard, at least when I am watching.

Try to capture a screenshot when it appears.

Win key + e opens explorer. Could you be hitting that accidentally?

It's a desktop, so not a laptop touchpad problem..
